Ball Joints

The ball joints on your car serve as the pivot point for the steering knuckle on your car or truck.  Ball joints are a ‘ball and socket’ type of joint, meaning that they consist of a metal, lubricated ball inside of metal housing that pivot when the steering wheel is turned.

Over time, through normal wear and tear these parts tend to wear out.  Symptoms of worn ball joints can include rattling from the suspension area, ‘loose’ or ‘sloppy’ handling – or can have no symptoms at all.  Annual inspections of your vehicle’s steering and suspensions systems is a good practice to identify any potential problems.  Absolute failure of the ball joint assembly can actually cause the ball to come out of the socket, which can be dangerous and cause the vehicle  to become impossible to control.
