Cooling System Flushes

Cooling system malfunctions are among the most common automotive failures in cars today.  Your cooling system consists of a water pump, a radiator, hoses, a heater core,  a thermostat, a coolant temp sensor, and antifreeze, among many other things.  While there are a lot of a things than can go wrong with a cooling system, luckily a little bit of maintenance goes a long way.  Flushing your cooling system periodically is the single best practice with respect to maintaining the cooling system in your car.

Antifreeze contains an abrasive chemical called ethylene glycol, which among other things possesses the heat-reducing properties essential to your engine’s survival.  Over time, the ethylene glycol breaks down and becomes less effective in its ability to dissipate heat.  Furthermore, just like any other fluid in your car or truck, antifreeze becomes dirty and contaminated over time, which causes it to become thicker and adds stress to other cooling system components such as the water pump.

For these reasons it is recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer that the coolant in your car or truck be replaced at scheduled intervals to prevent more costly repairs in the future.  Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual, or  contact the experts at West Michigan Transmissions at 616.534.7767 or email using the form below today to schedule an appointment with one of our ASE certified technicians.  Also, be sure to join our mailing list for exclusive deals and automotive tips!
