Gearbox Repairs
A common malfunction that occurs with steering components – especially in rear-wheel-drive cars and trucks is the steering gearbox. The steering gearbox is located in the front of the vehicle’s undercarriage, and connects directly to the steering wheel, usually by way of the steering shaft and universal joints.
Common issues with the steering gearbox can be fluid leakage, ‘binding’ while turning, and difficulty turning, among other things. Often a simple adjustment to the gearbox will be all that is required to alleviate these symptoms; other time the gearbox itself will need to be rebuilt or replaced in order to solve the problem. The first step is to contact West Michigan Transmissions to schedule an inspection to assess the problem and determine the best course of action.
