Drive Axle

All vehicles have at least two drive axles. The drive axles transfer power to the drive wheels. Two wheel drive vehicles have two drive axles, and four wheel drive vehicles have four drive axles. A drive axle is typically made of a solid steel shaft with splines machined into one end, and a flange machined into the other end. A damaged drive axle can cause a clunking noise when putting your vehicle into gear and vibrations while moving. If your drive axle breaks, you will not be able to drive at all when you put the vehicle into gear.

DRIVE AXLEThe drive axle is a necessary component that must be repaired for your vehicle to work. If you hear any clunking noises or feel excessive vibrations when driving, your vehicle may have a damaged drive axle, and should be repaired before it breaks completely.
