Filter and Fluid Service
Transmission failures can often be among the most costly of auto repairs. Luckily, there are preventative measures you can take that will ensure the transmission in your car or truck gives you the most life possible.
Following the recommended maintenance schedule for your vehicle’s transmission as well as the other systems is the single best investment you can make in the lifespan of your vehicle. For most vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, power flushing the system – which includes replacing all the transmission fluid in the system with fresh new fluid is the single most important aspect of transmission maintenance.

Why should the fluid in your transmission be regularly replaced? Transmission fluid performs several primary functions:
- Transmission fluid lubricates the moving parts inside of the transmission;
- Transmission fluid acts as a coolant to reduce the internal temperature of your transmission;
- Transmission fluid contains detergents that serve to clean the internal parts of your transmission;
- Transmission fluid has properties responsible for particle suspension – trapping dirt and debris in the fluid itself and not allowing contaminants to flow freely throughout the system.
Over time, your transmission fluid becomes dirty and contaminated. This can cause the transmission in your car to perform improperly. Dirty transmission fluid can cause valves to become plugged, seals to deteriorate, premature wear of internal moving parts, and many other issues. It is for these reasons that the fluid must be periodically replaced in order to keep your transmission running and shifting smoothly.
Many automatic transmissions are also equipped with a filter. Replacing the filter with a new part is often part of recommended transmission service for your vehicle and is an excellent piece of preventative maintenance.
